The pandemic associated with COVID-19 has generated great changes worldwide, rethinking work and coexistence methodologies, mainly due to social distancing and the use of biosafety methods. The current outlook of the response of Latin American heritage and cultural institutions, such as Libraries, Archives and Museums to COVID-19, is poor, since in practice they did not provide (even before the pandemic) adequate spaces to carry out isolation or quarantine procedures for their collections. In addition, in a large percentage, neither they have the basic biosecurity implements and updated technical procedures.
The institutions that house heritage, historical or cultural assets and that carry out research, exhibition or loan activities, must ensure the delivery of such information, as a necessary cultural asset for society, by integrating biosecurity plans, both for the health of workers and for the conservation of their heritage.
