Evolution of the use of specialized electronic information resources in the General Directorate of Libraries of the National Autonomous University of Mexico

The objective of this paper is to reflect on the evolution of specialized information resources in digital format over the past 35 years. It addresses the issue of the users’ response to specialized information and the responsibility of information professionals in the dissemination and training in the use of electronic resources. It points out some of the problems that prevent these resources to be used effectively. It high- lights the relationship between the explosion of information supply and the growth in the use and demand for these services. In addition, it questions whether the current supply of electronic information resources meets the needs of academic users.
