Abstract

This article is intended to serve as an approach to the world of services and collections of digital university libraries in Mexico and learn from different perspectives how the binomial librarian – user is applied in the different forms of distance education.
Based on a literature search and a field study this paper provides an overview of the role that university libraries have played to support digital and distance education forms and how information society views them within the teaching - learning process. This study is structured in three sections: the first one reflects on the role of the librarian in the digital environment and how it benefits the different forms of distance education; the second one shows the characteristics of users of distance education and the third one presents interactions between the afore mentioned and some proposals on how to improve the binomial librarian - user for the benefit of distance education forms.
