Elementos para reflexionar sobre el nuevo estándar para la descripción y acceso a recursos

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the factors to be taken into account to assess and judge the new standard for Resource Description and Access (RDA). Based on the analysis of different points of view of the national and international cataloging community a range of ideas are produced to clarify the requirements of terminological change, bibliographic traditions and the effect of globalization that underlies the speech of such standard. It is not the intention of this study to show preference for or against the new paradigm that is considering the creation and development of information retrieval systems, but to note that, to accept, it should also address technological change. The study produced several arguments regarding to: what is meant by the new standard? What is its significance? And what are its new features?
