Abstract

The general library and the school library are an integral part of the educational system of any country, they are institutions that, by their intrinsic characteristics, preserve the infrastructure and collections that provide and represent a lasting investment in government and society to serve education, by becoming a reservoir of information that is the mainstay of the educational curriculum. Despite its relevance and potential, the Mexican federal legislation and the corresponding state laws do not include public, educational and information policies that have full use of the school library in support of the plans and programs of study. This paper examines the treatment of the library in the Mexican educational legislation, finding coinciden- ces that allow their practice in its formulation.
