Bibliometric analysis of University Library: production and impact during the period 1986–2024

Abstract

A metric analysis of the journal Biblioteca Universitaria is presented, based on bibliometric indicators provided by regional indexing systems that cover its historical trajectory: Biblat and Redalyc. Using these sources, the level of institutional diversification of authorship was evaluated and compared, as well as its degree of internationalization. Likewise, the concentration/diversification of thematic content (based on Biblat) and the usage level of the journal were examined, the latter measured through pdf download statistics recorded by Redalyc.
For the analysis of impact in its traditional sense, namely the citations received, data from Google Scholar were used, which, although the most comprehensive index, lacks rigorous bibliographic con- trols. From this source, the H and G citation indices were calculated. Finally, the dimension of social impact was incorporated using the Altmetric platform, which made it possible to trace the journal’s circulation through mentions across social media and other digital environments.
The results characterize Biblioteca Universitaria as a communication organ of predominantly local scope, with levels of exogenous authorship (external to the publishing institution and of foreign ori- gin) below 20%, a high degree of thematic diversification that confirms its role as a plural communication channel, an impact in citation that reached its highest values in the first decade of the 21st cen- tury, and an incipient social impact, in accordance with the visibility metrics captured by Altmetric.
