Academic communication in a world of platforms

It discusses the current problems of university libraries in relation to data and metadata of scientific journals, considering the communication styles in the in- formation society and knowledge-based economies. Based on the exponential growth of scientific information, it reviews the challenges of the profession and the mission of librarians since the interwar period, the emergence of bibliographic control and the appearance of the MEMEX in 1945, with the problems related to the registration of journal information. Describes current scientific communication considering the growth of China as a leader in scientific publications and patents, and the situation in Latin America. It ends with examples of good practices and suggestions for improvement for scientific journals.
