Abstract

When thinking or talking about biosecurity in archives, libraries and museums, an association is immediately made with the measures to be taken to protect staff from Covid-19 and although this is an essential element because being a new disease it constitutes the axis of main attention, it is worth mentioning that in the Cuban archives biosafety has been applied since the 80s of the last century. The climatic characteristics of Cuba, the ventilation / air conditioning conditions in the archives throughout the country and the latent biological risk to which the personnel is ex- posed (existence of fungal bioaerosols) have contributed to the implementation and generalization of standards related to biosecurity. The existing procedure for clean- ing and disinfection of warehouses, furniture, and archival documents that has been recently updated to meet the expectations of this time when the Covid-19 pandemic exists has been established with mandatory compliance in all the Cuban archives. Therefore, the objective of this work is to expose the importance of biosafety in Cu- ban archives and especially in this period of Covid-19 (during and post pandemic).
