KOHA como alternativa de software libre: retos a considerar para emprender un proceso de implementación

Actualmente, la implementación de software especializado enfocado a la gestión bibliotecaria representa un punto de inflexión en la mejora de los servicios bibliotecarios; cada vez, un mayor número de instituciones contemplan el uso de software libre como alternativa para dar solución a sus necesidades de automatización, pues implica una considerable reducción de costos entre otros beneficios; no obstante, su uso también lleva diversos retos implícitos, los cuales deben ser considerados en aras de alcanzar el éxito en los objetivos planteados.
El presente trabajo expone los principales retos a considerar al momento de iniciar el proceso de implementación de Koha, tales como aspectos técnicos de compatibilidad, migración, capacitación, mantenimiento, respaldo, actualización, así como los requerimientos de hardware y software recomendados, entre otros. Se espera que, tras comprender estos desafíos, las personas responsables de la toma de decisiones cuenten con los elementos necesarios para llevar a cabo una implementación efectiva.
